Jhansi: In a move towards strengthening rail safety, Jhansi division of North Central Railway has commissioned ‘Kavach’ automatic train protection (ATP) system on Gwalior-Jhansi section.A total of 1,596 radio frequency identification (RFID) tags have been installed along the section as part of the project. The tags provide train identification and location-related information.The commissioning covers Gwalior-Jhansi section, excluding Gwalior and Veerangana Lakshmibai Jhansi stations. Officials said the deployment would further enhance the safety and reliability of train operations on the important rail corridor.The system is designed to enhance train safety by assisting loco pilots and automatically intervening in situations involving potential human error. It provides protection against head-on and rear-end collisions, roll-away and standstill situations, railway officials said.“The project was executed by Project Unit, Jhansi, with the active participation of the signal and telecommunications department and other railway teams,” Jhansi divisional railway manager Aniruddh Kumar said.
