Prayagraj: In a bizarre incident, a bride in Kaushambi district refused to marry, saying that the complexion of the groom had a dark complexion and was short in height. The incident was reported in Nanmai village under the limits of Kokhraj police station of Kaushambi district on Thursday night.The bride’s family and other villagers gathered for the wedding were shocked by the bride’s response..Kokhraj police said that the marriage of Naseem’s niece was to be solemnised with Mahfooz at Nanmai village on Thursday night and a barat (marriage party) from village Raipur Mobai ( Hathgam) of Fatehpur district arrived at the doorstep. However, all was well till the bride saw the groom just before the wedding ceremonies.Just as the wedding was about to be solemnized, the bride said that she would not go ahead with the marriage citing that the groom was too dark to match as well as was short heighted .Family members of both groom and bride tried to pacify the bride for more than an hour but she was firm on her decision. The family members tried to convince the bride by roping in local and prominent villagers. However, all attempts failed to reach any conclusion and marriage party had to return sans the bride. Kokhraj police said that both the groups have not submitted any complaint regarding the incident.
