Commuting as part of the daily routine over the years, one would hardly escape the view of many acres of green land at the industrial estate in Sempora, with a beautiful mountainous region overlooking the site, on the outskirts of the city, just 10 kilometres from the Capital.
People are always eager for the land to be utilised for some work benefiting the public. At one point in time, the land was envisioned by some to be utilised as a playground, by some as an amusement park and for many other ideas.
But something far more envisaged – a big leap towards strengthening advanced and affordable healthcare in the region. Kashmir Medical College – one of the biggest foundation stones laid in the region’s private health sector.
Not just another healthcare facility— a lifeline for thousands of families – otherwise struggling to reach tertiary care hospitals like SMHS and SKIMS Soura during peak night hours against the backdrop of Golden HOUR. A sigh of relief and ease – a platform for future doctors to take shape.
Hundreds of MBBS seats at the doorstep – for many parents, a blessing in disguise, otherwise compelled to send their wards out of sight to pursue their dreams in foreign countries.
The institution marked its philanthropic presence by way of starting many free medical camps across the nook and corner of the region and many free in-house surgeries.
Envisioned with a 1000-bedded hospital and a medical college, state-of-the-art advanced medical technologies and many specialities manned by renowned specialists –a step towards strengthening advanced and affordable healthcare infrastructure in the region.
A foundation that does not take shape overnight, nor does this come without resistance and challenges. Steadfastness and resilience to keep humanity at the heart of healthcare delivery seem to be paramount.
The progress and healthcare delivery currently visible at the beginning is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when leadership move forward with a shared vision and unwavering love for patients and public care.
With the enabling environment being created in the private sector, adding to economic development and employment, such institutions need thorough support from across – to open doors to a new era in private healthcare in the Valley.
