The CM, speaking to reporters in Delhi, said he knew who had masterminded the operations, who was funding them and how they were being carried out.
“I am in a responsible position, and I do not speak without basis. I have all the evidence,” he said.
Shivakumar’s remarks came days after he warned his Cabinet colleagues to be cautious about alleged attempts to conduct sting operations targeting them. The warning has triggered a political controversy, with the Opposition questioning the basis of the allegations. BJP state president BY Vijayendra has also sought details of the alleged agencies involved.
Asked whether the attempts against him took place before or after he became chief minister, Shivakumar said they were made after he took charge. He said he also knew which other political leaders were being targeted but would not disclose their names at present.
“I know who is doing what. Some people approached me and I became suspicious of them. I informed the police and kept the records ready,” he said, adding that photographs and other material could be released if required.Shivakumar said he would disclose the details “at the appropriate time” and declined to say whether those behind the alleged operation were from Karnataka or outside the state.
He also claimed that private agents had been engaged to entrap ministers and officials. He said his warning to ministers was intended to ensure they exercised caution in their dealings.
The issue has gained political traction after Union minister HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Shivakumar had used a sting operation against former chief minister Siddaramaiah and that it contributed to Siddaramaiah stepping down in June. The Congress, however, has rejected it as a politically motivated comment.
