The first Cabinet meeting chaired by Shivakumar took six important decisions.
The CM, briefing the media about the decisions, said the programme will be applicable to only those students who will apply for it and get passes. The government will soon come up with a name for the programme.
The Cabinet also decided that the government should have its own employment exchange to facilitate private sector hiring, besides speeding up the process to fill up vacancies in government departments. There are about 56,000 vacancies the government would fill up soon, the CM said.
The new exchange will work on requests from private companies for the kind of skilled manpower they need. The government would even rope in industry experts to train the enrolled youth and help their hiring by the private companies, Shivakumar said. The companies must, however, give a lion’s share of jobs to Kannadigas, he said.
The government may even look beyond Karnataka to have its people employed. Three ministers, the CM added, have been asked to prepare a roadmap on this, and the same is expected in a month’s time.
ONE TIME RELIEFThe government will give a one-time relief for structures built in plots of up to 2500 sq feet with 20% deviation from the sanctioned plan to help them get water and electricity connections.
The government had not been providing water and electricity connections to these structures for want of commencement certificate and occupancy certificates in deference to an apex court order. The Cabinet decided to give relief to structures built up to May 31, and the scheme will not be applicable to future buildings, Shivakumar said.
The government will also extend the scheme facilitating regularization of B khata properties into A khata ones to the entire state. This is available only in Bengaluru. The relief will help the property owners avail of bank loans, he said.
The Cabinet decided to give Rs 2000 crore to asphalt the roads in Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) and BDA limits. The allocation is over and above the existing budget, the CM said.
BHARAT JODO CLUB
Shivakumar said the Cabinet has decided to give a grant of Rs 10 lakh to each of the 10,000 Bharat Jodo Associations that the government will help the local youth to form. These clubs, each with 150-200 members, will help the youth cultivate healthy habits like engaging in sports, art and culture and other activities that help in personality development and acquiring leadership qualities.
