NEW DELHI: What’s happening in Gurgaon? Two separate incidents involving alleged road rage, reckless behaviour and assault have put the spotlight on road safety and unlawful conduct in the city.Gurgaon Police has taken suo motu cognizance of a viral video involving a woman biker and a car, while a retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran has alleged that he was assaulted with an iron rod by a parking attendant following an altercation over parking.Woman biker shares video of car hitting her in GurgaonA woman biker’s video of an alleged road incident in Gurgaon has gone viral on social media, prompting police to take suo motu cognizance of the matter.The incident was captured on a camera mounted on the biker’s motorcycle and later shared on Instagram by the rider, who identified herself as Sia and urged Gurgaon Police to take action.Sia said the incident took place on Sunday while she was riding with friends from Golf Course Road towards Bikerburns. She alleged that the occupants of a car followed her, behaved aggressively and asked her to stop.She said she asked them to maintain distance but continued riding after feeling unsafe. She also alleged that the occupants appeared to be drunk.Sia said she tried to stay ahead of the car, while a friend riding behind attempted to prevent the vehicle from coming alongside her. According to the video, the car continued following her and eventually hit her motorcycle before driving away.One of Sia’s friends followed the car and confronted the driver at a traffic signal. She said the driver denied responsibility for the collision before driving away.Gurgaon Police said it was registering an FIR based on the viral video. Police said efforts were underway to identify the accused and that they would be arrested at the earliest.“The accused will be identified and will be arrested at the earliest, and strictest legal action will be taken against all those found involved,” police said.The incident has also prompted Gurgaon Police to reiterate its zero-tolerance policy towards road rage, reckless behaviour and unlawful conduct on the city’s roads.“Gurgaon Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards road-rage, reckless behaviour, and any form of unlawful conduct on the roads. Any such incident will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with law,” police added.Retired IAF officer alleges iron-rod assaultIn a separate incident, a retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran has accused a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park of assaulting him with an iron rod, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured hand.In his complaint to police, Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) alleged that the attendant also threatened to kill him following an altercation over parking on September 10. The complaint has been lodged at Sector 65 police station.Gupta, who was part of the IAF’s ‘Op Sagar’ team during the 1999 Kargil War, had gone to Magnum Global Park for a family dinner at Gonzo restaurant that night.According to his complaint, Gupta dropped his family at the restaurant around 8pm and went to park his car. He alleged that the parking staff directed him between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking before eventually refusing to park the vehicle.The situation escalated when Gupta tried to reverse his car. He alleged that one of the attendants struck the windshield, apparently attempting to damage it, before returning with an iron rod.Gupta alleged that the attendant then struck him twice with the rod — first on his hand and then on his head. He said the blow to his head caused heavy bleeding.His family took him to Medanta Hospital, where he remains admitted. Gupta has sought registration of an attempt-to-murder case against the accused.The two incidents have brought renewed attention to alleged road rage, reckless behaviour and disputes over roads and parking escalating into violence in Gurgaon.
