Kargil, Oct 13 : In a significant enforcement action, Kargil Police intercepted a truck carrying nine cattle at Khangral Check Post during routine checking, following an alleged attempt by the driver to evade police instructions near Moundik Danga.
According to police, the truck bearing registration number HP72A-3997 allegedly failed to stop when signalled by police personnel near Moundik Danga and continued driving rashly, putting the safety of on-duty personnel at risk. The vehicle was subsequently intercepted at Khangral Check Post, where police conducted an inspection.
During the inspection, officials recovered nine cattle, comprising two oxen and seven cows from the enclosed truck. A preliminary inquiry revealed that the animals were being transported from Punjab to Kargil without adequate arrangements for water and fodder, raising concerns over the conditions in which they were being transported.
Taking cognisance of the alleged violations, police registered FIR No. 60 of 2026 at Police Station Wakha under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The truck and all nine cattle have been taken into custody as part of the investigation. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and examine the alleged offences.
