Bicholim: Around 200 locals from Bicholim, Karapur, and Mayem marched to the Bicholim police station on Thursday after activist Swapnesh Sherlekar was taken for questioning for protesting with villagers at the site of a mega-project at Karapur. Following the demonstration, Sherlekar was released by police.Sources said that panchayat officials had filed a complaint based on which Sherlekar was brought to the police station for an inquiry.South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes, who was also present at the police station, said people from Goa have now awakened and all are ready for even an arrest. The issue erupted after around 60 farmers from Karapur gathered at the Karapur-Sarvan panchayat, questioning sarpanch Divya Naik on approval to the mega project on the property where small agricultural lands are situated. Former sarpanch Tanvi Sawant then directed the farmers to present their documents and said that further action will be taken if the property belongs to the farmers.
