Times News NetworkKanpur: Chaos, heated arguments and a brief suspension of the House marked the Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) full House meeting on Saturday during which six members of the working committee were unanimously elected. The meeting, convened to elect the six members, witnessed heated exchanges between corporators over ward delimitation, allegations of encroachment on govt land and a brief ruckus before proceedings resumed.The elected members are Rajat Kaushik (Samajwadi Party) and BJP corporators Vandana Sharma, Kaushal Mishra, Adarsh Gupta, Jitendra Chaurasia and Satish Yadav.Meanwhile, the BJP corporator group appointed Govind Mohan as its chief whip and Neeraj Raksel as whip. BJP corporator group leader Naveen Pandit said the appointments were made in compliance with the directions of mayor Pramila Pandey. The whip’s post had fallen vacant following the death of corporator Yashpal Singh.The meeting began on a contentious note when a heated argument broke out between SP corporator Rajat Kaushik and BJP corporator Vikas Jaiswal over ward delimitation. The exchange soon escalated into a scuffle, prompting Naveen Pandit and other members to intervene and pacify the two. An agitated Jaiswal raised the slogan “Toti Chor” in the House and also accused SP MLA Amitabh Bajpai of being a thief.Meanwhile, suspended BJP corporator Pawan Gupta reached the House and sought permission from mayor Pramila Pandey and municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya to participate in the working committee election. However, both officials turned down his request, following which he left the premises.
