KANPUR: A man’s joke about repairing a damaged road backfired when a shopkeeper and his son allegedly beat him with sticks, breaking three of his teeth, in Sharda Nagar on Sunday evening. Police said no legal action was taken as both sides reached a compromise late in the evening.According to information, Amit Singh, a private sector employee and resident of Sharda Nagar, went to the nearby Bhadauria General Store to buy milk. The road near the shop had been broken for a long time and Amit jokingly asked shopkeeper Sanjay Singh Bhadauria whether the road was going to be repaired. It was alleged that the shopkeeper flew into a rage over the remark and began abusing him.According to the victim, as the dispute escalated, the shopkeeper dragged him inside the shop, where Sanjay Bhadauria and his son Saurabh together beat him with sticks. In the attack, Amit’s three teeth were broken and he was injured.After the incident, Amit reached Rawatpur police station holding his broken teeth in his hand and submitted a written complaint to the police, demanding action. Amit stated that after the assault, the accused placed the broken teeth in his hand and taunted him saying, “Here, the road is built now. Go ahead and file an FIR!” He immediately dialled 112.Police reached the spot and took both parties to Rawatpur police station. A video of the incident went viral on social media, including footage in which Amit was seen showing his broken teeth at the police station, and the matter came under widespread discussion.Station in-charge Kamlesh Rai stated that both parties reached a mutual compromise late in the evening, due to which no legal action was taken.
