Jamshedpur: Another five accused, including the key associate of the absconding mastermind, in the Kairav Gandhi abduction case have been arrested from different places across the country over the past two days, SSP Piyush Kumar Pandey said on Saturday.Bistupur-based industrialist Devan Chandra Gandhi’s son, Kairav (24), was kidnapped from the city on January 13 and rescued from Barhi in Hazaribag on January 27, police said.The key associate of the gang’s kingpin, Gurdit Singh Shera, was apprehended from Kolkata. Accused Manpreet Singh Shera and Amrinder Singh alias Kartar Singh were arrested from Ludhiana, Santosh Kumar from Ghaziabad, and Rajkaran Yadav from Sheikhupura in Bihar, the SSP said.SSP Pandey said, “The five arrested were part of the kidnappers’ group, led by the absconding kingpin. They were responsible for conducting recce and Kairav’s kidnapping by posing as police personnel. They followed Kairav for the past six months.”“The absconding gang leader had approached the kidnappers’ gang of Bihar and plotted Kairav’s kidnapping. The separate gang from Bihar, whose six members were arrested earlier, took over Kairav’s custody after he was transported to Gaya Ji in Bihar,” the SSP said.“Members of the two gangs are not familiar with each other. They only followed the orders of their bosses and executed their part of the job,” the police officer said.The arrested accused would be interrogated. Search for the absconding accused would be intensified. The motive behind the abduction is being ascertained, the SSP said.All six miscreants of the Bihar gang were apprehended from Patna, Gaya Ji, and Nalanda districts of Bihar between January 27 and January 29 in the kidnapping case.
