K Kavitha launches TRS, slams father KCR’s leadership (File photo)

HYDERABAD: Former MP and daughter of BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, launched a new party, Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS), the acronym of which is similar to her father’s earlier party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). KCR’s TRS was changed to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in 2022 to enter national politics.Kavitha announced her party, TRS, and party flag at a massive meeting at Muneerabad on the outskirts of Greater Hyderabad on Saturday. The former MLC, Kavitha, quit the BRS in Sept 2025 after being suspended by her father, KCR, on allegations of anti-party activities. Later, she quit the party and announced she would launch a political party.During the launch meeting, Kavitha targeted her father, KCR, stating that KCR changed and was not the leader who spearheaded the struggle for a separate Telangana. The Saaru Raaru (Sir (KCR) will not come out for the people).“When Velugumatla houses were bulldozed by the govt in Khammam, KCR did not come to express solidarity with the people. When farmers’ lands were taken over in Chevella, he did not come out,” Kavitha said.Kavitha said when a Singareni worker died, KCR visited the family and even visited weavers when they were in trouble. “What happened to love after formation of Telangana? Has affection been lost after coming to power? The BRS lost its soul. He may be my father; that is a different issue,” she criticised.Kavitha found fault with her father, KCR, for stating that people made a mistake by electing the Congress and defeating the BRS and called it a lack of political maturity. “If my children commit a mistake, would I abandon them?” she asked and said a venomous ruler’s governance is going on. KCR should have protected them when the houses were demolished at midnight in Khammam, she said. The ex-MLC said KCR did padayatra for RDS prior to the formation of Telangana and did nothing for the Palamuru lift irrigation project. Earlier, KCR would have sat there and completed the project. Changed KCR went to Punjab, Gujarat and Bihar for political aspirations to become a national party. The Telangana that was envisioned during the struggle was not achieved. I am ashamed to have been part of achieving Telangana. Simply apologising to the people for mistakes and being part of the BRS was not enough. To correct the mistakes, we are coming with Telangana Rashtra Sena,” Kavitha said.On launching her party, Kavitha said she did not immediately start a party when she was suspended. “I waited for a long time, hoping they would change. She met with the same experience in the party like those who participated in the Telangana movement and worked in the party. Where are those who sold their houses and lands for KCR now,” she said.
