Justice (retired) D Krishnakumar

CHENNAI: Former Madras high court judge Justice (retired) D Krishnakumar on Monday assumed office as the chairman of the State Law Commission.He was acting chief justice of the Madras high court before being appointed as the chief justice of Manipur high court. He attained superannuation on May 21, 2025.The state govt reconstituted the law commission through a govt order dated Aug 7 and appointed Justice (retired) Krishnakumar as the chairman of the commission.Former Madras high court judge RMT Teekaa Raman, former additional chief secretary TK Ramachandran and former law department secretary A Arunagiri were appointed as full-time members. Former district judges P Mohan Doss and R Govindarajan were appointed as part-time members, while an officer in the cadre of secretary, law department, will serve as the full-time member secretary.The commission will suggest suitable modifications or amendments to plug loopholes in existing laws and recommend social and economic legislative measures. It will also suggest ways and means for interstate relations and Centre-state relations and make recommendations for judicial and administrative reforms aimed at improving and expediting procedures.
