Silchar: A 19-year-old Bangladeshi, who allegedly entered Assam undetected two days back in search of a job, surrendered before the district and sessions court in Sribhumi on Monday.The youth, identified as Dwin Islam Sheikh from Bagerhat district, approached the court seeking legal assistance and appealed to be repatriated to his home country.Court sources said Dwin claimed that he was lured to India by a Bangladeshi agent, identified as “Rabbi”, who promised him a good job. He alleged that the agent illegally brought him across the border before abandoning him at Guwahati railway station.Unable to contact anyone, the youth reportedly boarded a train to Silchar and reached the Sribhumi district court and sought legal aid.DLSA legal aid defence counsel Tutiur Rahman Patikar said officials were taken aback when the youth approached the court for assistance.“I uploaded a post on social media requesting anyone who may know his address or family members to contact us. Under Indian law, every individual, whether a citizen or not, is entitled to basic human rights and legal protection. Certain documents are essential for his legal defence. However, repeated attempts to contact the Bangladesh phone number he provided were unsuccessful,” Patikar said.He added that the youth had been handed over to Sribhumi police and would be provided legal assistance during the course of the investigation.
