New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University has written to Indraprastha Gas Ltd seeking relaxation of restrictions on PNG supply, stating that the curbs could disrupt mess operations.

In its letter, the university said the cap – limiting supply to 80% of the average consumption of the previous six months for commercial users – is straining kitchen operations in hostels.

It said that “resident students, wardens and hostel staff depend on uninterrupted PNG supply for preparation of daily meals, and any restriction could affect the cooking and distribution of food to a large number of students.” It urged IGL to consider relaxation or exemption to hostel messes.

The issue comes amid growing discontent among students over menu cuts and reduced options in canteens.

NSUI held a Taali-Thaali Bajao Abhiyaan across DU campuses, saying the LPG crunch was affecting student accommodations.
