Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) initiated an outreach programme to strengthen heritage protection in the Walled City, with its Heritage Cell signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dronah Foundation Wednesday.The foundation had prepared the dossier that helped Jaipur secure UNESCO World Heritage status.Officials said the collaboration will support community outreach and consultations to expand public participation in heritage conservation and guide implementation of the Special Area Heritage Plan (SAHP), which is currently being prepared for the Walled City.“The programme has been conceived as a platform to promote heritage awareness, capacity building, community consultation, and technical guidance for residents, property owners, craftspeople and other stakeholders within the Walled City,” the official stated.The initiative aims to improve awareness of heritage regulations, encourage compliance and build shared civic responsibility for protecting Jaipur’s historic urban fabric. Officials said the programme will directly involve those who live, work and trade in the heritage precinct, ensuring conservation planning reflects local needs and values.Over the next two years, JMC will conduct workshops, consultations, heritage walks, exhibitions, cultural events and training programmes across the Walled City. The activities will also underline Jaipur’s recognition as both a UNESCO World Heritage City and a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Arts.After the MoU signing, the Heritage Cell held a workshop titled “Our Heritage, Our Voices: Community Value Mapping and Interpretation Workshop”.“Residents, craftspeople, women, youth, traders, religious representatives and other community stakeholders will attend this event. The workshop will initiate a process of community value mapping and co-curating heritage interpretation for Jaipur,” stated another official.
