Srinagar, Feb 27: J&K moved closer to a historic Ranji Trophy triumph as they extended their overall lead to 477 runs by stumps on Day 4 against Karnataka, staying firmly in control of the final in Hubli.
After piling up 584 in their first innings and bowling out Karnataka for 293, J&K built further pressure in the second innings. At close, they were 186 for 4 in 57 overs, setting up a daunting equation for Karnataka on the final day.
Qamran Iqbal anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 94 off 160 balls, striking 11 boundaries and a six. He showed patience and control, ensuring J&K added steadily to their advantage. Abdul Samad chipped in with 32, while Sahil Lotra remained unbeaten on 16 to support Qamran at stumps.
Amid the dominant performance, Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that he would travel to back the side.
“On our way to Hubli to cheer the J&K cricket team as they play the final of the Ranji Trophy. They’ve already made lakhs of people so very proud of their achievements by reaching the final. I’m really looking forward to spending the day tomorrow in the stands cheering them on,” he said in a post on X. His message has added to the growing excitement back home, where fans are closely tracking every session of play.
Earlier in the day, Yawer Hassan and Shubham Pundir fell cheaply, while captain Paras Dogra made 16. Karnataka’s bowlers picked up four wickets but struggled to halt the scoring rate for long stretches.
With a massive lead in hand and momentum on their side, J&K now need a disciplined bowling effort on Day 5 to script a memorable maiden Ranji Trophy title.
