Srinagar, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir para-cricketer Amir Hussain Lone is set to attend President Droupadi Murmu’s ‘At Home’ Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi on August 15, marking a proud moment for the sportsperson and his home region.
Amir, who lost both his arms at a young age, has built a name for himself in cricket through determination and hard work. His invitation to the President’s reception has added another significant moment to his journey and brought happiness to his family and villagers.
The reception is being organised as part of the celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day. For Amir, the invitation carries special meaning as it will give him an opportunity to meet President Murmu on the national occasion.
Speaking to ANI, Amir said he had never imagined that he would get such an opportunity.
“I hadn’t thought that such a day would come when I would meet President Droupadi Murmu on a special day like August 15. It is an honour for me that I have been invited on this special occasion,” he said.
Amir said the invitation has brought immense happiness to his family and people in his village. For them, his journey from facing a life-changing setback to representing himself through cricket has become a source of pride.
His presence at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Independence Day will also highlight the role of sport in creating opportunities for people who overcome physical challenges through determination and perseverance.
