Srinagar, August 28: MBBS interns across Jammu and Kashmir have announced a united protest from August 31, demanding revision of their long-pending internship stipend to ₹30,000 per month.
According to an announcement issued by J&K MBBS interns, the protest has been planned following coordination among representatives of medical colleges across the Union Territory.
The interns have stated that, from August 31, participating interns will refrain from joining their duties until the stipend issue is addressed and their demand for a fair revision is considered.
The interns maintained that the protest is not limited to any particular medical college and represents a collective demand of MBBS interns across Jammu and Kashmir. They have appealed to all interns to remain united and participate in the protest peacefully.
Reacting to the development, Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, renowned health activist also questioned the continued delay in revising the stipend of medical interns in J&K.
“If Uttar Pradesh can enhance the internship stipend to ₹25,000, why is Jammu and Kashmir still delaying a fair revision for its medical interns? Our interns deserve dignity, recognition and fair compensation for their contribution to the healthcare system,” Dr. Momin Khan said.
The interns are seeking a monthly stipend of ₹30,000, stating that the demand is aimed at ensuring fair compensation and recognition of the responsibilities shouldered by MBBS interns during their compulsory internship.
The proposed protest is expected to draw participation from interns across various medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, with the interns reiterating that their demand is for a fair and timely decision from the authorities.
