Hyderabad: A 28-year-old man was tied to a tree and thrashed by locals in Suryapet on Thursday morning after he attacked a 25-year-old woman with a hammer at her sister’s house in Kudakuda, on the outskirts of Suryapet.Police identified the accused as B Mahesh of Lingampalle village in Noothankal mandal, Suryapet district. He has a graduate degree and was living in Hyderabad while searching for employment. The woman, from the same mandal, is pursuing her final year LLB in Hyderabad.According to Suryapet rural police, the two had been in a relationship for several years, but it recently became strained and she started avoiding Mahesh. A few days ago, she went to her sister’s house in Kudakuda. As she was not answering his calls, Mahesh discovered she was there.Mahesh arrived at the house at around 9.45 am with a hammer while the victim’s sister and brother-in-law were out for work, leaving the woman alone in the penthouse. “After a brief argument, Mahesh attacked her on the head three times with the hammer. The victim collapsed, and upon hearing her screams, a neighbour went to the penthouse. Mahesh tried to escape, but locals caught him and tied him to a tree,” said Suryapet rural CI Rajasekhar.The locals roughed up Mahesh and alerted the police. Both Mahesh and the LLB student were rushed to hospital for treatment, and she was referred to NIMS in Hyderabad for better treatment.Mahesh, who sustained bruises, was discharged in the evening, and police arrested him. “We have registered an attempt-to-murder case against Mahesh. He will be produced before the court for remand. The victim is undergoing treatment and her condition is stable,” the CI added.
