Jharsuguda: The cyber crime & economic offences wing of Jharsuguda Police has managed to secure the full refund of Rs 7.02 lakh swindled from a Belpahar-based company in an online cheating case involving the purported supply of technical grade urea.Police said the firm had contacted a supplier after coming through an online advertisement and transferred Rs 7.02 lakh as advance payment to the proprietor of Shree Radhe Chemicals. The accused allegedly gained the company’s trust by sharing a valid-looking GSTIN and a forged e-way bill. However, after receiving the payment, neither the material was delivered nor the money returned.Acting on a complaint lodged on June 28, Jharsuguda cyber police initiated swift action through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and coordinated with the banks concerned. The timely intervention helped freeze the entire amount, resulting in 100% recovery and refund to the complainant.“The company was duped by fraudsters posing as suppliers on an online platform. Prompt reporting and coordinated action with banks ensured that the entire cheated amount was frozen and recovered,” Jharsuguda SP G R Raghavendra said.Police have registered a case on the NCRP and launched efforts to trace and arrest the accused. The SP cautioned businesses and individuals against making advance payments without verifying credentials of online suppliers.“In case of cyber fraud, immediately report it to the 1930 helpline. Early reporting is crucial for successful recovery,” Raghavendra said.
