Ranchi: The state forest department has begun preparations to host maiden national level forest fair between Sept and Oct this year. On Thursday, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Sanjeev Kumar convened a meeting with all key stakeholders to chalk out modalities for the same. “Discussions were held on the event framework, allocation of responsibilities, publicity, promotion, and other necessary arrangements,” he said.“The idea behind the fair is to provide a common platform for buyers and sellers of minor forest produce from Jharkhand, which is expected to attract industries and enterprises related to forest-based products to the state,” Kumar said,The fair is scheduled during Sept–Oct. On the layout of the fair, he added, “It will provide the general public and stakeholders a platform to explore, experience, buy, and sell minor forest produce, medicinal plants, herbal products, natural wellness products, and green industries at one place. Overall, it will help promote livelihood enhancement for forest dwellers, tribal communities, and rural people through forest-based economic activities.”
