Ranchi: Finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore on Friday tabled the third supplementary budget of Rs 6,540 crore for the ongoing financial year in the state assembly, with major allocations to rural works department and infrastructure, social welfare, energy, health and administrative functioning.Of the total outlay, Rs 1,717.58 crore was allocated to the rural works department and Rs 779 crore for the department of women, child development and social security. A sum of Rs 657.56 crore was allocated to the panchayati raj department and Rs 594.88 crore was allotted to the rural development department.

Demand for additional grants were also made for repayment of loans and interest. For interest payments, Rs 153.61 crore was demanded while Rs 92.21 crore was sought for loan repayments. A sum of Rs 232.36 crore was allocated under pension head. Kishore will table the budget for 2026-27 FY on Feb 24. As the House convened for business, legislators raised the issues faced by Jharkhand’s migrant workers and sought answers from the govt.Stating that only 2 lakh of the 16 lakh migrant workers of the state had been registered to reach out during emergencies, Dumri MLA Jairam Mahto sought to know the steps being taken by the govt to increase the registration.Jairam demanded a hike in compensation provided to the families of migrant workers to Rs 5 lakh (from Rs 50,000 at present) and questioned whether the govt planned to set up a directorate for their welfare. While Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee supported Jairam’s demand for a separate directorate, leader of opposition Babulal Marandi suggested that the govt must appoint dedicated personnel to coordinate with the workers who face language hurdles while working in southern states. Assuring to look into the demands, labour minister Sanjay Yadav said Rs 2.25 crore was spent by the govt in the ongoing fiscal to bring back the remains of 148 workers who died in foreign nations to their homes in Jharkhand.
