Ranchi, The Jharkhand government on Tuesday signed an MoU with the University Polytechnic, BIT-Mesra, to offer free technical education to 850 meritorious but financially underprivileged students, an official said.
The agreement was signed by Welfare Department Joint Secretary Jawed Anwar Idrishi and Director of University Polytechnic, BIT-Mesra, Vijaya Laxmi, he said.
“The signing marks a significant step towards expanding equitable access to quality technical education for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged SC, ST and OBC communities across Jharkhand,” a release issued by BIT-Mesra said.
The Jharkhand government has committed Rs 79.40 crore over 10 years, bearing 85 per cent of the institution’s recurring costs, so that up to 850 students annually receive free tuition, hostel, and mess facilities, it said.
The eligibility will be merit-based for students with an annual family income below Rs 2.50 lakh, the release said.
“This landmark partnership with the Government of Jharkhand reinforces our unwavering commitment to the state and its people. Together, we are creating a pathway through which deserving students, irrespective of their financial background, can receive quality technical education and emerge as skilled professionals, who will contribute to the growth of Jharkhand alongside the nation,” BIT-Mesra Vice Chancellor Indranil Manna said.
