MEDININAGAR: A 22-year-old woman from Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly murdered over dowry in Dalla village, Palamu district, Jharkhand, and her body set on fire to conceal the crime, police said on Sunday. The woman, who got married 11 months ago, had reportedly been subjected to frequent beatings and harassment by her in-laws, according to a complaint filed by her father. He alleged that she was killed on February 13, and her body was burned to destroy evidence of the crime. SDPO (Vishrampur) Alok Kumar Tutti said that bones and other remains of the victim were recovered from a forest near the village on Saturday. “A search is underway for the accused. So far, no arrests have been made, and all members of the in-laws’ family are absconding,” he added. Pandu police station officer-in-charge Vagesh Kumar Ray confirmed that a forensic team had collected the victim’s remains for further examination.
