Jhansi: A major tragedy was averted after a lift in the Jhansi Medical College fell down from the first floor after the pulling wire snapped due to overload late on Wednesday evening. A man sustained a fracturewhile few reported injuries in the accident.The accident took place in ward number 8 of the main building of the medical college when people were visiting to see their patients. At a point of time around 16 people including some women and children alighted the lift having a capacity to carry only 8 persons.The moment the overfilled lift reached the first floor, the pully wire snapped and the lift hurled down.Hearing the loud sound, the security personnel rushed and forcibly opened the door to evacuate the occupants.While a woman fainted, a man sustained a fracture apart from a few sustaining injuries. The injured were rushed to the emergency for medical help.Chief medical superintendent Dr Sachin Mahour said, “Around 16 people got inside the lift which has a capacity of 8. The liftman tried to stop but by that time it had started which caused the accident”.The authorities said that the lift has been placed under repair and it will be assured that proper alarm equipments are fixed to avoid any future accidents.
