Ludhiana: A jeweller in the city’s Kot Mangal Singh area was injured after being dragged nearly 500m while attempting to stop a thief.The incident occurred at a shop in Shimlapuri when a man, posing as a customer, asked to see 32-g silver bracelets. After selecting two pieces to compare, the suspect pretended to receive a phone call and suddenly bolted from the store with one of the items.The shop owner, identified as Manoj, immediately gave chase and caught up to the suspect just as he was reaching his parked motorcycle. In a desperate bid to prevent the theft, Manoj grabbed onto the vehicle, but the accused accelerated away. The jeweler was dragged along the pavement for a significant distance before the thief managed to break free and escape.Police from Division Number 6 have recovered CCTV footage from two locations. One camera inside the shop captured a clear image of the suspect’s face, while a second street-level camera recorded the dragging incident. Inspector Vijay Kumar stated that authorities are currently using the footage to trace the accused.
