Amritsar: Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, the officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht, on Sunday visited the residence of BSF jawan Jaswinder Singh, who was allegedly tortured to death in Amritsar while in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the recent past. The jathedar listened to the family’s account and assured them of support in their fight for justice. An Akal Takht release informed that while addressing the sangat during a religious event at Mahlowal in the R S Pura area of Jammu, Giani Gargaj asked chief minister Omar Abdullah and the Jammu and Kashmir govt to ensure justice for Jaswinder Singh’s family. He claimed that Jaswinder Singh was brutally tortured in the NCB custody, leading to his death.Giani Gargaj further said the family had observed clear marks of severe torture on the body of the deceased. A case should be registered against the responsible NCB officials, and they should be given stringent punishment, the jathedar added. If Jaswinder Singh had committed any offence, there are laws and courts in the country to deal with such matters, and he should have been punished as per law, not killed through torture, he said.Jaswinder Singh was serving with the BSF and was posted along the Bangladesh border. He had come home on leave when he was allegedly picked up by the NCB.He further said if the government failed to act against the accused NCB officials, the entire Khalsa Panth would raise its voice in the matter. Giani Gargaj also termed it unfortunate that no political leader from the Jammu region had so far raised their voice to ensure justice for the victim’s family.MSID:: 129880439 413 |
