IIT Delhi currently has 11 active MoUs with Japanese academic institutions.

New Delhi: A delegation of members of Japan’s House of Representatives visited IIT Delhi to explore opportunities to expand academic and research collaboration between India and Japan, with a focus on strengthening cooperation in science and technology.

The delegation, led by Saito Hiroaki, Chair of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan’s House of Representatives, met IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee and senior officials on September 1.

Discussions covered existing academic and research collaborations between IIT Delhi and Japanese institutions, as well as opportunities to develop new areas of cooperation.

The Japanese delegation also visited IIT Delhi’s Robotics Lab, led by Prof. Rohan Paul, the Yardi School of AI and the Mitsui Kinzoku Lab at the institute’s Research and Innovation Park. The Mitsui Kinzoku Lab has been established at IIT Delhi with support from Japanese industry.

Saito said the delegation expects to strengthen India-Japan relations in science and technology through IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi’s Dean of International Relations, Prof. Anil Verma, said the institute has a “strong and longstanding engagement” with academic and industrial institutions in Japan.

According to IIT Delhi, the institute currently has 11 active MoUs with Japanese academic institutions, along with industry-sponsored Centres of Excellence. It also works with Japanese companies including Hitachi Energy, Honda, Sony, HORIBA and Yamaha on research, innovation and co-creation initiatives.

The visit comes as IIT Delhi continues to deepen its engagement with Japanese universities and industry, creating potential avenues for further academic, research and technology partnerships between the two countries.
