Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Monday took oath as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, formally beginning his tenure as the Bankipur MLA.
Kishor took the oath in the presence of Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar.
He made his electoral debut on August 3, winning the bypoll in the prestigious Bankipur constituency and ending the BJP’s hold over the seat, which the party had retained since 1995.
Kishor secured 64,151 votes, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes. Kumar polled 44,827 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated after BJP president Nitin Nabin vacated the Bankipur seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
