Dumka: Nine alleged cyber fraudsters were arrested from two villages in Jamtara district, police said on Saturday.Addressing a news conference, Jamtara SP Shambhu Kumar Singh said the arrests were made during coordinated raids carried out by a special team led by DSP (cyber) Amit Ravidas. “Police arrested five accused from Mattand village under Karmatanr police station limits and four others from Posoi village under Jamtara Town police station limits,” he said.The accused were identified as Mujahid Ansari, 24, Salamat Ansari, 27, Samnar Ansari, 33, Tabarak Ansari, 25, and Sarfaraz Ansari, 30, all residents of Mattand village. The others are Roki Kumar Das, 23, Arjun Das, 37, and Sachin Das, 23, of Posoi, along with Amrit Ruidas, 24, of Daspara in West Bengal’s Barakar.Police seized 27 mobile phones, 39 SIM cards and a tablet suspected to have been used in online fraud. Police said the gang targeted victims through fake cashback schemes.“The accused were using multiple methods, including fake cashback offers and impersonation of bank officials, to cheat innocent people,” Singh said.The SP added that Mujahid was previously charged in cybercrime cases registered in 2020 and 2024.Singh urged people not to trust unsolicited calls or cashback offers and never share confidential banking details such as OTPs, CVV or ATM information with anyone.
