Rajkot: A dispute over a loan of just Rs 100 allegedly turned fatal after a 28-year-old daily-wage labourer was beaten by four of his friends at a cremation ground in Dared village of Jamnagar district on Sept 24. The victim, Suryakant alias Surya, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at GG Hospital the next day.Police have arrested four men on charges of murder and are investigating the circumstances leading to the assault and the exact reason for the dispute.According to the complaint lodged by his brother-in-law, Sugrimkumar Kushwaha (37), on Saturday, Suryakant was sitting at the cremation ground with three friends — Viral Parmar, Khoda alias Kholu and Viram alias Radhe — on the night of Sept 24.The complaint stated that Viral allegedly asked Suryakant to lend him some money. When Suryakant refused, the three allegedly assaulted him with fists, kicks and sticks. A short while later, Ravirajsinh Kanchwa allegedly reached the spot and joined the assault.After the assault, the four allegedly left the spot. Suryakant remained injured at the cremation ground. One of his acquaintances later found him there and informed Kushwaha.Suryakant was taken to GG Hospital in a 108 ambulance for treatment, but died during treatment.Police registered a case of murder under BNS and other provisions against Vimal Parmar, Khoda alias Kholu, Viram alias Radhe and Ravirajsinh Kanchwa.Investigating officer V J Rathod told TOIthat preliminary investigation revealed Suryakant was native of Bihar and had been working as a daily-wage labourer in Jamnagar for the past two years. The four accused were also labourers, police said.
