Jammu, July 23: The Jammu State Movement on Thursday condemned the killing of a police personnel in a terrorist attack in Kashmir, paid tribute to the slain officer and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
In a statement, the organisation said the attack underscored the continuing threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, where decades of violence have claimed the lives of civilians, police personnel and security forces.
The Movement said the peaceful atmosphere of the Jammu region must be safeguarded and asserted that terrorism should not be allowed to spread beyond Kashmir. It reiterated its demand for separate statehood for Jammu, claiming that the region’s distinct administrative, social and security challenges warrant separate governance.
The organisation also said terrorism should remain above political considerations and urged all political parties to unite in the national interest to combat the menace.
Calling for an impartial inquiry into the history and spread of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the Movement sought an investigation into alleged administrative and political failures over the years. It demanded strict legal action against any individual, political party or organisation found to have supported terrorism, if established through credible evidence.
The statement further urged the Government of India to intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, strengthen the security framework in Jammu and seriously consider the long-pending demand for separate statehood for the region.
