Jaisalmer: A husband and wife suffered severe burns after a fire broke out under suspicious circumstances at a mud house in Paruram ki Dhani near Hansua village in Jaisalmer district Wednesday morning.Ramuram (40) and his wife Pepo Devi (38) were asleep when the blaze erupted around 6am. While Pepo managed to run out of the room despite being surrounded by flames, Ramuram was trapped inside. Locals rushed the couple to the district hospital, from where they were referred to Jodhpur in critical condition.

According to doctors at District Jawahar Hospital, Ramuram suffered 90% burns and Pepo around 70%.Sadar police station in-charge Premdan Ratnu said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. A short circuit is suspected, and an FSL team has been called to collect evidence. Police are also probing reports that the incident may have followed a quarrel. Further clarity is expected after recording their statements.
