Jaipur: A jailer posted at Ajmer Central Jail was suspended Saturday after a video surfaced showing three convicted prisoners speaking on a video call with Nafees Chishti, the convicted mastermind of the 1992 Ajmer blackmail scandal, using the jailer’s mobile phone, officials said.Rajasthan director general (Prisons) Ashok Rathore ordered the immediate suspension of jailer Saddam Hussain pending a departmental inquiry. Officials said an FIR is also being registered against Hussain and others at Civil Lines police station in Ajmer.During the suspension period, Hussain will report to Sriganganagar Central Jail, according to the suspension order.The video, purportedly recorded in Nov 2025, shows prisoners Syed Tariq Chishti, Syed Tausif Chishti alias Chikki, and Fakhar Jamali speaking from inside the jail with Nafees Chishti, who was outside the prison. The three inmates were sentenced on Nov 7, 2025, by an Ajmer court in a case involving assault, grievous injury, attempted murder and weapons offences.Nafees Chishti was earlier convicted in an Ajmer case involving rape and conspiracy. Two other unidentified people are also seen with him during the call.Officials said the call appeared to have taken place from the jail superintendent’s office. Hussain was holding charge of the superintendent’s duties until Dec 15, 2025. Based on date of the inmates’ conviction and the statement of Syed Tausif Chishti, officials believe the call likely took place between Nov 20 and Nov 30, 2025.The prison department said the allegation that a jail official allowed prisoners to contact people outside the prison through a prohibited mobile phone made suspension necessary to prevent interference with the inquiry. The department is also examining whether any other jail officials or staff were involved.Of the three prisoners seen in the video, Syed Tariq Chishti and Fakhar Jamali were released in July 2026. Syed Tausif Chishti, who was still lodged at Ajmer Central Jail, has been shifted to Bharatpur Central Jail.
