Guwahati: Officers from Jagiroad police station busted a fake lottery racket in Jagiroad on Friday, leading to the arrest of three individuals, who were allegedly running the scam. The operation was launched following multiple complaints from local residents, who claimed that they had been duped on the pretext of winning lottery prizes, police said.Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jagiroad police station, Brajeshwar Pegu, said the arrested individuals have been identified as Ali Akbar, Nirajul Islam and Ashraful Islam. All three hail from Nagaon district.According to the OC, the gang allegedly printed fake lottery tickets and circulated them on social media platforms along with contact numbers. The tickets falsely claimed that winners would receive vehicles as prizes, luring people into contacting the gang.During investigation, police traced the origin of the racket to Kachua and Kampur in Nagaon district. “The three arrested persons confessed that they had been operating the racket from their homes in these areas. We have also seized the mobile phones used in the crime,” Pegu said.
