Kendrapada: Police in Jagatsinghpur district arrested a 28-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl in a village. The girl delivered a stillborn at the district headquarters hospital in Jagatsinghpur on Thursday.The survivor lodged an FIR on Friday, alleging that the accused befriended her on social media and raped her multiple times since last year, following which she became pregnant. She further alleged that the accused attempted to force an abortion by giving her medicines last month, after which she fell ill and later delivered a stillborn.Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused under BNS sections 70(2) and 89, and sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, said investigating officer Susant Kumar Sahoo.The accused was produced in a court in Jagatsinghpur on Saturday. His bail plea was rejected and he was remanded in judicial custody, police said.
