Chepauk Super Gillies captain N. Jagadeesan led from the front as the team posted a win against Salem Spartans.

With its Tamil Nadu Premier League campaign threatening to drift, Chepauk Super Gillies found a way to steady the ship. Captain N. Jagadeesan led the 183-run chase with an aggressive knock of 78 (39b, 5×4, 6×6) to steer his side to a five-wicket win over SKM Salem Spartans at the NPR College ground here on Wednesday, consigning Salem to a fourth straight defeat.
Asked to bat, Salem was staring down the barrel at 84 for six in the 12th over before Harish Kumar (57 n.o., 35b, 1×4, 6×6) and M. Eshwar (39, 20b, 5×6) breathed life into the innings with a 69-run seventh-wicket alliance. Harish unleashed a stunning assault at the death, smashing 26 runs in the final over as Salem recovered to 182 for seven.
The Chepauk side was handed an early setback when opener Mokit Hariharan fell in the first over. Jagadeesan immediately shifted gears, launching three maximums before joining Ram Arvindh (26) in a 60-run third-wicket stand. Just when the partnership threatened to take the chase away from Salem, a disastrous “yes-no” call ended Arvindh’s stay and gave the Spartans a way back.
Jagadeesan, though, kept his side in the hunt before Rahil Shah finally broke through in the 13th over. Swapnil Singh (45, 26b, 1×4, 5×6) and Mohana Prasath (16 n.o., 9b, 1×4, 1×6) then finished the job in style, taking 18 off the 16th over. Swapnil smashed Uday for a six before holing out, but the damage was done as the Super Gillies completed the chase with 20 balls to spare.
Madurai Panthers, riding on R. Ramkumar’s 15-ball 40 (3×4, 4×6) and Rohan Bhutra’s superb spell (4-0-23-2), notched up notched up its fourth successive win.
