Kolkata: Jadavpur University vice-chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee has written to KMC commissioner Smita Pandey, seeking for exemption or reduction of deployment of university non-teaching employees as enumerators for Census 2027 so that the essential functioning of the university could continue without disruption.More than 200 non-teaching staff from JU have been entrusted with the census duty.“The university is functioning under severe manpower constraints owing to 685 vacant non-teaching posts. Deployment of a significant number of university employees for census-related duties may considerably impact the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the university. While recognising the importance of Census 2027, it would be extremely challenging to spare a substantial number of employees without affecting the core academic and administrative responsibilities of the institution,” read Bhattacharjee’s letter. Earlier, he wrote to the city census officer, KMC, with the same appeal.
