Awantipora, Oct 9: The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), convened its 4th Board of Studies (BoS) meeting on October 7.
The meeting was held to review and deliberate upon the academic curricula of the undergraduate programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics and Automation.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Faroze Ahmad, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, IUST. The Board comprised distinguished external experts from academia and industry, including Prof. Mohammad Zaheer Khan Yusufzai, IIT (BHU), Varanasi; Prof. Arun Dayal Udai, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad; Dr. Sheikh Shahid Saleem, NIT Srinagar; Dr. Mir Irfan Ul Haq, SMVDU, Katra; and Mohammad Farooq Tass, ONGC, Agartala.
The deliberations focused on three major areas. The first was the review of the curricula of the four-year B.Tech. programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics and Automation.
The external experts offered valuable academic and industry-oriented suggestions to strengthen the programmes in line with emerging technologies and professional requirements.
The second agenda concerned Open Elective courses for students across the University. The Board appreciated the proposed interdisciplinary courses ‘Introduction to Aerospace, Drones and Space Technology’ and ‘Emerging Trends in Sustainable Engineering Design and Technologies.’
The Board also deliberated upon Skill Enhancement/Skill-Based courses and recommended the introduction of ‘Fundamentals of CAD and 3D Printing,’ aimed at providing students with practical exposure to computer-aided design and contemporary additive manufacturing technologies.
The meeting provided a valuable platform for academic–industry interaction, with the external experts sharing perspectives on emerging technological trends, industry expectations and the skills required by future engineers.
