Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday alleged that Congress had compromised with farmers’ interest by accepting the Dunkel proposals and exposing India’s agriculture market to the world, but the Narendra Modi government reversed that after 2014.
Shah challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to an open debate at a platform of his choice, where BJP‘s Yuva Morcha president can engage with him on the matter.
Shah alleged Gandhi was creating unnecessary fear among farmers over India’s trade agreements with the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union.
Shah claimed that livelihoods of farmers, cattle-rearers and fishermen were fully safeguarded in the recent agreements with the UK, EU and the US. He said the agreements would help Indian agricultural and marine products reach global markets while keeping domestic interests secure. Shah said full protection has been given to the dairy sector.
