T’puram: Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) on Wednesday launched Cyber Jagratha SafeTech campaign, an initiative aimed at improving cyber awareness, digital safety and responsible use of technology among citizens.The campaign, launched by the IT department, will initially train 1,000 academic ambassadors and 1,500 community ambassadors. They will take cybersafety awareness programmes to one lakh students and one lakh citizens across the state. The aim is to make cybersafety part of everyday digital behaviour by enabling citizens to recognise online threats, protect themselves from fraud, and use technology more responsibly.The initiative will be implemented in phases through SafeTech Clubs, community ambassadors, and a dedicated online platform providing information and resources on cyber safety. The programme will focus on helping people identify online risks, prevent cyberfraud, respond to threats and use digital services safely.Inaugurating the campaign, industries, IT, AI and future technologies minister P K Kunhalikutty said the rapid expansion of technology had also created opportunities for exploitation, making cybersafety an important social concern.“Technology can be safe, but it can also become a source of exploitation,” Kunhalikutty said, stressing the need to protect ordinary users who are particularly vulnerable to cyber exploitation.Transport minister C P John presided over the function. Ministers N Shamsuddin, Roji M John and Bindu Krishna attended the programme as guests of honour.The campaign mascot, ‘Kio’, was unveiled at the launch. The campaign portal was inaugurated by Roji M John, while Shamsuddin launched the campaign logo.
