Israel’s strikes on Syria have triggered a fresh clash with Turkey and growing concern in Washington, after Israeli forces hit the Abu al-Duhur airbase in Idlib. Israel said the eight strikes were aimed at stopping a potential Turkish military deployment, while Ankara denied having troops at the site and accused Israel of using a false pretext. The U.S. also called the strikes an “unnecessary escalation” as fears grow over a wider Israel-Turkey confrontation in Syria.
