Ahmedabad: The health and food department of AMC on Monday sealed a confectionery manufacturing unit at Hirawadi in Isanpur, for producing lollipops under a retailer’s food licence and allegedly violating food safety norms. During a raid, officials found lollipops being manufactured in unhygienic conditions and seized 1,500kg of stock worth Rs 4.5 lakh.AMC officials said the action was taken against Manan Food, located on GD High School Road in Hirawadi. The unit, owned by Nareshbhai Ghanshyambhai Mangwani, was engaged in manufacturing mixed-flavour lollipops, classified as sugar-boiled confectionery.During the inspection, officials found that the unit was operating under a retailer licence issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, despite carrying out manufacturing activities. The inspection also revealed alleged violations of food safety requirements prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Act.Officials reported extremely unhygienic conditions on the premises, including accumulated waste and scrap material. Workers were found without mandatory protective gear such as caps, aprons, and gloves, and did not possess medical fitness certificates.Citing public health concerns, the department immediately sealed the unit.
