Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company Ltd has been warned by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for non-compliance with applicable Expense of Management (EoM) limits for financial year 2024-25.

In an order dated August 19, 2026, the insurance regulator also directed Niva Bupa not to open any new place of business for a period of six months from the date of the order, the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.

The company said IRDAI had earlier sought an explanation from it regarding the EoM limits for FY25, following which Niva Bupa made submissions to the regulator.

According to the disclosure, the alleged non-compliance relates to Regulations 6, 10, 11 and 19 of the IRDAI (Expenses of Management, including Commission of Insurers) Regulations, 2024. The company said the financial and operational impact of the order is nil in monetary terms.

The restriction on opening new places of business will remain applicable for six months from the date of the order. “The Company is evaluating the order and will take appropriate steps to safeguard the interest of stakeholders,” they Company said.

The health insurer also said it is compliant with the EoM Regulations, 2024 for the full financial year ended March 31, 2026, as well as the quarter ended June 30, 2026. It added that it is on track to remain compliant with the regulations for the full financial year ending March 31, 2027.

The company said there are no expected financial implications arising from the regulatory communication.
