Itanagar: Three persons, including an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) personnel and two women, were arrested for running an illicit narcotics network in Siang and West Siang districts on the night of July 9, police said.The network was busted by Siang district police in coordination with the West Siang anti-drug squad. The anti-narcotics operation was executed under the supervision of Siang SP JK Lego and SDPO Y Yangi. A team from Boleng Police Station led by officer-in charge inspector T Padung carried out the operation.Acting on intelligence regarding the movement of drug traffickers from Aalo in West Siang to Boleng in Siang district to collect contraband, the police team set up strategic check-posts (nakas) at key locations.Boleng executive magistrate Niyang Pertin and independent witnesses oversaw the search and seizure proceedings to ensure strict legal compliance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.During the interception, police recovered 10.74 grams of suspected heroin (brown sugar), 1.22 grams of suspected opium, 11 opioid substitution therapy (Bupet-N) tablets and Rs 12,030 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.The two women arrested are from West Siang district, police said.A case has been registered at the Boleng police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is on to trace the supply chain.Reiterating its commitment to a drug-free society, police have urged the public to continue sharing information regarding illegal narcotic activities to protect local youths from the menace of drug abuse.
