Vadodara: ‘The Narmada District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Go Digit General Insurance Company to pay Rs 85,263 to a Garudeshwar man whose e-scooter was damaged in floods in Sept 2023.The commission passed the order on a complaint filed by Soma Tadvi in Feb 2024. Tadvi had purchased the e-scooter in April 2023. When the Narmada River flooded in September that year, floodwaters entered his village and damaged the vehicle.Tadvi subsequently took the scooter to a service workshop for repairs, but alleged that the workshop refused to undertake the work after the insurance company rejected his claim.The insurer contended that the damage resulted from Tadvi’s negligence and that he had informed the company about the damage only after 28 days.The commission, however, observed that the insurer had failed to produce evidence establishing that Tadvi’s negligence had caused the damage. It held that there was a deficiency in service on the company’s part.“The complainant bought the vehicle for his convenience and happiness but he couldn’t get it,” the commission observed.Besides ₹85,263 towards the claim, the commission directed the insurer to pay Rs 3,000 for mental agony and Rs 2,000 towards legal expenses.The commission did not pass any order against the service workshop.
