In a significant boost to Indian Coast Guard personnel welfare and infrastructure development, Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), laid the foundation stone today for the G+29 Coast Guard Officers Residential Area (CORA) building at Worli, Mumbai.

Mumbai: Inspector general Bhisham Sharma, commander, Coast Guard Region (West), laid the foundation stone on Friday for a G+29 residential tower for Indian Coast Guard Officers Residential Area (CORA) in Worli, to replace older dilapidated structures that were already demolished, officials said.The proposed 29-storeyed tower will be constructed on a plot area of 2670.93 square metres and is estimated to cost approximately between Rs 200 crore and Rs 300 crore. Initially sanctioned in Feb 2020, the project overcame administrative and regulatory delays following proactive coordination with govt of Maharashtra (GoM) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Following the waiver of FSI charges till Occupancy Certificate, re-tendering and the grant of Commencement Certificate on Aug 3, the project achieved full statutory compliance and execution readiness, the official said.An ICG spokesperson said the project would provide modern family accommodation and housing quarters for personnel. “Executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the landmark high-rise project addresses long-standing housing requirements and modernises living standards for ICG officers and their families stationed in Mumbai,” said the spokesperson.The official said the 29-storey residential tower would house married accommodation flats, Officers’ Mess and Single Living Quarters. The official said the project would include an integrated Officers’ Mess with a Wardroom, Dining Hall, Gymnasium and Multipurpose Hall, along with dedicated multi-level parking capacity for 91 vehicles.Officials said the new high-rise would include 40 flats of Type 4, 5 and 6, and would be constructed at the same place where the old ten-storey residential quarters building was demolished.ICG officials said that in govt defence and civil residential projects in India, quarters are categorised by officer rank and entitlement scale based on plinth area: Type IV: Generally allotted to middle-to-senior level officers/personnel (such as senior Gazetted Officers or mid-level civilian/defense equivalents). Type V: Allotted to senior officers (such as Commandant or Deputy Inspector General level equivalents) and Type VI: Allotted to higher-ranking senior officers (such as Inspector General level equivalents).
