Guwahati: India and Myanmar have held the third round of their defence cooperation meeting in Guwahati, reviewing progress on bilateral initiatives and discussing new steps to strengthen military ties.Special emphasis was put on training, capacity building and mutual security at the meeting that took place on Wednesday.Ministry of Defence spokesperson, in a post on ‘X’, said that the meeting was co-chaired by defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Myanmar’s chief of armed forces training, Lt Gen Pyae Sone Linn.“The two sides reviewed the progress made on defence cooperation initiatives agreed at the last meeting, held in Yangon in 2025. They also exchanged views on new initiatives to deepen the ongoing cooperation, with a particular focus on training and capacity building and on enhancing mutual security,” the spokesperson wrote.The Myanmar side appreciated India’s humanitarian support after the devastating earthquake in the country. India, as a close neighbour and “first responder”, had provided assistance under Operation Brahma, the spokesperson added.
