Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said the “unjust” war imposed on the Iran should end while as the People’s Democratic Party passed a resolution in support of Iran.

Abdullah while interacting with reporters here said peace should prevail and the US and Israel do not get to decide the leadership of Iran. The National Conference leader said it is for the people of Iran to decide about their leadership.

“We want this unjust war that has been imposed on the people of Iran to stop. America and Israel don’t get to decide who the leader of Iran is. Israel and the US don’t get to decide who the Supreme Leader is,” Abdullah told reporters here.

The chief minister said Iran’s assassinated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was not just the political leader of Iran but “an acknowledged religious leader for the entire Muslim Ummah.” “So, this should not be seen as a conflict with Iran; it has far wider implications,” he added.

Former chief minister of J&K and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said the party has passed a resolution in support of Iran and praised people of J&K for its support to Iran in its fight against the “Satanic Forces.”

“I urge the Muslim countries to stand with Iran. Government of India should also review its policy for Iran who has supported India at critical junctures,” said Mufti. The PDP leader said that Kashmir has spiritual connection with Iran and Muslim scholars travelled to Valley from Iran.
“I also urge the LG to release hundreds of prisoners who were detained over the past two weeks during pro-Iran protests across the Valley. Some of them have been released but hundreds of them are still in jail,” said Mufti. She said continued war has a human cost and economics cost and Kashmir too will suffer economically. “We area already suffering due to inflation and shortage of fuel and essentials will further deepen the crisis,” said Mufti.
